Senji Foundation Launches “Feed a Nation” Campaign in Busiu, Mbale District

MBALE, UGANDA — In a targeted effort to combat household food insecurity and support vulnerable families, the Senji Foundation has officially extended its humanitarian footprint to Elgon region with the launch of the “Feed a Nation” campaign in Busiu, Mbale District.

The initiative, spearheaded by the foundation’s founder, Mukisa Zevirio, focuses on providing immediate nutritional relief to child-headed households, less privileged families, and orphan children, while laying the groundwork for long-term food security and agricultural resilience in the community.

Delivering Relief to Busiu Communities

Busiu and its surrounding areas in Mbale have faced structural challenges, with many vulnerable households struggling to access diverse, nutrient-dense foods. The Senji Foundation addressed these immediate gaps through a well-coordinated distribution drive, delivering critical relief packages that included:

  • Essential Food Supplies: Bulk distributions of high-yield nutritional staples including maize flour, beans, rice, cooking oil, and sugar to sustain families through difficult seasonal transitions.

  • Targeted Nutrition for Children: Specialized food packs for orphans and infants to prevent early-childhood malnutrition and stunting.

  • Home Gardening Kits: To promote self-reliance, the foundation distributed high-quality vegetable seeds (including cabbages, tomatoes, and leafy greens) alongside basic farming tools, empowering households to cultivate their own backyard gardens.

A Vision of Sustainability and Health

Speaking at the launch event in Busiu, Mukisa Zevirio emphasized that the “Feed a Nation” campaign is designed to go beyond temporary relief.

“A nation cannot learn, grow, or prosper if its children are going to bed hungry,” said Zevirio. “Our intervention in Busiu, Mbale is an urgent response to the food security pressures hitting less privileged families. While we supply these immediate food packs today, our deeper goal is empowerment. We want to ensure that every orphan child we support has the nutritional foundation required to excel in school, and eventually, the safety of a permanent home.”

Local leaders in Busiu commended the foundation for its timely intervention, noting that supporting child nutrition directly improves school attendance and community well-being.
